The 2010 regular legislative session is down to the last three days. The big news this week is the passage of H.B. #5282. This bill could provide workers' comp benefits for certain cancers and infectious diseases contracted on the job as a compensable benefit. This is an issue that has been lobbied for by the UPFFA for several years. We have continued to support their efforts on this initiative. This legislation passed the House and Senate. It now goes to Governor Rell for her signature. Language in this bill provides for benefits for paid and volunteer firefighters, police officers and sworn constables, and members of volunteer ambulance services.
Other activity includes:
H.B. #5255 & H.B. #5446 passed the House and moved to the Senate.
S.B. #149 & S.B. #312 passed the Senate and moved to the House.
H.B. #5282 & S.B. #25 passed both chambers and move for the Governor's signature.
S.B. #186 was referred to the Judiciary committee.
